WOLF-HIRSCHHORN SYNDROME

Course overview

Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome (WHS) is an extremely rare genetic disorder characterized by severe growth impairment and mental retardation; microcephaly (i.e., a small head); distinctive facial features (called Greek helmet facies, including a broad bridged or beaked nose); high forehead with prominent glabella (i.e., area between the eyebrows); low-set, malformed ears with pits/tags; epicanthus (i.e., a vertical fold on either side of the nose); highly arched eyebrows; short philtrum (i.e., area from below the nose to the upper lip); downturned mouth; micrognathia (i.e., small jaw); and dental abnormalities. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of WHS, its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment for patients with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
