Course overview

Polytrauma (i.e., sustaining multiple injuries) is common in areas of military deployment, and can include injury from occupational incidents and accidents and injury from gunfire, artillery, and explosives, including rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), improvised explosive devices (IEDs), landmines, and suicide bombers. Polytrauma can include traumatic brain injury, blindness, amputation, and trauma to multiple organ and sensory systems. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of relevant research regarding the field management of CRT, including evidence-based information on the etiology and pathophysiology of polytrauma and strategies to promote early stabilization, and to aid in caring for the patient with polytrauma. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
