TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY, NONPENETRATING, COMBAT-RELATED: FIELD MANAGEMENT

Course overview

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs as the result of an external force upon the head. TBI can be caused when structures of the brain hit the skull, causing bruising, tearing of nerve fibers, and bleeding; this type of injury is a nonpenetrating or closed TBI. When objects penetrate the skull and enter the brain, the TBI is classified as penetrating. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of relevant research regarding post-traumatic stress disorder in military personnel, including evidence-based information on risk, symptoms, clinical presentation, medical care, disease treatment, and treatment goals for the healthcare provider to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
