Course overview
Antimicrobial wound dressings are impregnated with an immediate and/or controlled release formulation of an antiseptic compound (e.g., iodine, silver, honey, antibiotic drugs) that can prevent or control wound infection. Antimicrobial dressings should only be used when prescribed, in patients at increased risk for wound infection, and/or when clinical wound infection exists. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of how antimicrobial wound dressings can be used to promote wound healing. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
