TUMOR LYSIS SYNDROME: MANAGING

Course overview

Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is an oncologic emergency. TLS occurs due to the release of a large amount of intracellular components (e.g., phosphorus, potassium) into the bloodstream with the death of malignant cells. TLS causes electrolyte and metabolic disturbances that can progress to renal failure, cardiac arrest, or death. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of relevant research on the general principles of caring for a patient with TLS including why this is important and information to provide to the patient’s family. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
