ZIDOVUDINE (RETROVIR)

Course overview

Zidovudine (AZT) is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) that is U.S. FDA-approved as monotherapy to prevent vertical (i.e., perinatal maternal-fetal) HIV transmission and, in combination with other antiretroviral agents, to treat HIV infections in adults and children. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of AZT. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
