Course overview

An indwelling urinary catheter is a flexible tube that is inserted into the bladder via the urethra, in a process called transurethral catheterization, and left in place for continuous drainage of urine. Foley catheters (FCs) are the most commonly used type of indwelling catheters. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of urinary catheter insertion in the female adult patient, including the appropriate technique and use of supplies, and to aid in caring for the patient requiring urinary catheter insertion. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
