Course overview
Measuring urinary output is a noninvasive nursing activity for monitoring a patient’s kidney function. This involves collecting the patient’s urine from a bedpan, urinal, bedside commode, urinary catheter drainage bag, or urine hat and measuring the volume of urine collected on the graduated container. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of measuring urinary output, including the steps of the procedure, supplies needed, and patient education concerning measuring urinary output. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
