Course overview

Minimally invasive total hip arthroplasty (MI-THA) refers to the surgical replacement of a damaged hip joint (due to disease or trauma) with an artificial prosthesis (i.e., artificial substitute for a dysfunctional body part) via one or multiple small surgical incisions (~10 cm). The surgery can be performed using an anterior, anterolateral, direct lateral, or posterior approach. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of MI-THA, including indications for MI-THA, contraindications, complications, and outcomes, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
