Course overview

Total hip arthroplasty (also known as total hip replacement) is a highly invasive procedure involving surgical incision into the soft tissues of the hip and the joint capsule; removal of diseased tissue and bone, if present; and creation of a cavity within the bone of the femur and pelvis into which the appropriate parts of the prostheses are attached. Soft tissues around the joint are then surgically repaired and the incision is closed. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of postoperative incision care following total hip arthroplasty. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
