Course overview

Managing visitors to patients in isolation (i.e., contact, airborne, or droplet precautions) involves balancing efforts to support patient-visitor interaction with the need to prevent the spread of infection, maintain patient safety, and provide optimal patient care. Patient visitation is generally guided by established facility visitation protocols; however, clinicians who care for patients in isolation must also verify that patient visits are conducted in accordance with United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for isolation precautions. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of how to manage visitors to patients in isolation. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
