Course overview

Management of patient visitors is guided by established visitation policies, which vary widely between healthcare facilities and patient care units. Individual patient/visitor circumstances also play a role. To effectively manage visitors to psychiatric patients, mental health clinicians must balance efforts to support patient-visitor interaction with the need to maintain the safety of patients, visitors, and healthcare workers. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of how to manage visitors to psychiatric patients. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
