Course overview
Tracheal tubes are designed with an inflatable compartment that is called a cuff. Inflation of the cuff prevents the passage of air or fluid around the tracheal tube. Inflation of the tracheal tube cuff is important to maintain placement of the tracheal tube and to prevent aspiration of oronasal secretions or gastric contents. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of performing tracheal tube cuff inflation and deflation. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
