Course overview

Weighing a patient involves placing the patient on a scale in order to determine his/her weight. A freestanding scale, bed scale, chair/wheelchair scale, or infant scale can be used. Patients are weighed during outpatient visits to primary care and various other clinician specialists; in the inpatient setting, patients may be weighed on a freestanding scale or infant scale that is brought to the bedside or centrally placed in the inpatient unit. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of relevant research regarding weighing a patient. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
