TRANSFER OF PATIENT, MANUAL: BED TO CHAIR/COMMODE OR GURNEY

Course overview

A patient with limited mobility requires assistance with transfers from one surface to another. Horizontal patient transfer from bed to a chair/commode or gurney may be manual, with or without assistive transfer devices (e.g., transfer belt, friction-reducing sheets, transfer boards), or mechanical, involving a lift. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of how to manually transfer a patient from a bed to a chair/commode or gurney safely. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
