Course overview

This session, Impact of intergenerational and parental trauma in early childhood, will review current research on the ways trauma is transmitted across generations, and in particular how parental trauma impacts the early childhood period. The session will provide a quick refresher on trauma, review how trauma impacts the developing brain, and identify specific parenting practices related to the intergenerational transmission of trauma and how those practices impact the developing child. The presenters will review how early intervention programs can support child and family health, specifically addressing how prevention and intervention can strengthen resilience and family health, and increase protective factors. Current community resources will be shared, and discussion on the material will include potential gaps in the Licking and Knox County communities.
