FLORIDA - BOARD-APPROVED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COURSE

Course overview

This course provides Florida nurses with the essential knowledge and competencies to identify, assess, and respond to domestic violence in compliance with Florida Statute 456.031. Learners will explore the dynamics, types, and patterns of abuse, as well as the physical and psychological impacts on survivors and their families. The course emphasizes the nurse's legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities in detecting abuse, documenting findings, and connecting patients to resources. Participants will review Florida-specific statutes, reporting obligations, and available victim support systems to ensure evidence-based and legally sound practice. Using case studies and scenario-based learning, nurses will apply trauma-informed care principles and enhance their ability to support patient safety and empowerment. This course meets the Florida Board of Nursing's 2-hour domestic violence continuing education requirement. Domestic Violence is required every third biennium and the hours are in addition to the 24 hours required for renewal.
