Course overview

Clinical supervision plays a critical yet demanding role in providing (and receiving) high quality mental health care. This presentation offers an overview of clinical supervision and the roles we play as supervisors. Administrative and managerial considerations will shared. A larger emphasis will be placed on reviewing theories of counselor development and clinical supervision. These theories will be applied to hypothetical cases, illustrating how different facets of the relationship can impact the overall supervisory alliance/dynamic. Assessments, interventions, and remediation techniques will also be introduced with an emphasis on intentionally fostering the therapeutic skills necessary to be an effective supervisee.
