The purpose of this course is to provide nurses and other healthcare professionals with current information on Parkinson's disease (PD) and its management. Under- standing the epidemiology, pathophysiology, risk factors, clinical features, diagnostic process, treatments and complications of PD provides a foundation for nursing care of the patient with PD. Learning outcomes include: Review approximately how many people in the U.S. have Parkinson's disease. Explain the pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease. Recognize risk factors for developing Parkinson's disease.
