At the conclusion of this presentation, attendees should be able 1.Define the term PET and explain the basic imaging principle of coincidence detection 2.Explain how PET is different than other modalities 3.Explain how PET radiopharmaceuticals display organ function rather than anatomy 4.List the risks, benefits and clinical value of PET 5.Name the commercially available PET pharmaceuticals and their physical characteristics 6.Relate the safety of these drugs 7.Compare the radiation dose of F-18 FDG to that of other commonly used radiopharmaceuticals 8.Recognize the chemical structures of FDG and glucose 9.Discuss reimbursement issues and approved indications for F-18 FDG 10.Discuss use of this drug in oncology, neurology, and cardiology.
