Course overview

This workshop seeks to examine the stigma of mental health within the African American community from a trauma-informed lens. There will be an overview of the definition of trauma, then a deep dive into understanding the dynamics of racial and historical trauma. Then we will examine the mental health history in America from the development of the asylums to the present and how that helped shape the schema of the African American community. Lastly, we will explore treatment methods by discussing evidenced-based measurement tools, as well as the least effective and most effective modalities for addressing racial trauma.
