What you'll learn

Upon completion of this course, the healthcare professional will be able to:

1. Identify common comorbidities in the elderly and the diseases they most frequently cause or worsen.

2. Explain how multiple chronic conditions interact to accelerate functional decline and disease progression.

3. Apply risk stratification and clinical management strategies to reduce complications and improve quality of life in older adults.

Course overview

As the population ages, healthcare professionals increasingly care for older adults with multiple chronic conditions. Comorbidities in the elderly significantly increase the risk of disease progression, functional decline, hospitalization, and mortality. This course provides a comprehensive review of common geriatric comorbidities and the diseases they precipitate, emphasizing early identification, clinical risk stratification, interdisciplinary management, and patient centered care. Learners will explore the physiological, psychological, and functional impact of multimorbidity while applying evidence-based strategies to reduce complications and improve outcomes.
