What you'll learn

Upon completion of this course, the healthcare professional will be able to:

1. Identify the clinical features, risk factors, and underlying mechanisms associated with Capgras Syndrome.

2. Apply appropriate diagnostic criteria and testing to differentiate Capgras Syndrome from other psychiatric and neurologic conditions.

3. Implement evidence-based pharmacologic and supportive interventions to improve patient outcomes and safety

Course overview

Capgras Syndrome is a rare delusional misidentification disorder in which an individual believes that a familiar person most often a spouse, family member, or caregiver has been replaced by an identical imposter. Although uncommon, Capgras Syndrome is clinically significant due to its association with neurodegenerative diseases, psychiatric disorders, brain injury, and increased risk of agitation or violence. This course provides healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of Capgras Syndrome, including its neurobiological and psychological underpinnings, diagnostic approach, differential diagnoses, pharmacologic and non pharmacologic management strategies, patient safety considerations, and expected outcomes
