Course overview

Chagas disease, also known as American trypanosomiasis, is a parasitic infection caused by Trypanosoma cruzi. While traditionally associated with Latin America, increased migration has resulted in rising cases in the United States and other non endemic regions. Chagas disease is often underdiagnosed due to its long asymptomatic phase and nonspecific early symptoms. Chronic infection can lead to life-threatening cardiac and gastrointestinal complications. This course provides healthcare professionals with a comprehensive review of Chagas disease, focusing on transmission, pathophysiology, diagnostic testing, pharmacologic treatment, long-term outcomes, and strategies for early detection.
