Course overview
Leishmaniasis is a vector-borne parasitic infection caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania, transmitted by phlebotomine sandflies. It manifests in three main clinical forms: cutaneous, mucocutaneous, and visceral (kala-azar). Clinical presentation varies from mild skin ulcers to life-threatening systemic disease. Timely recognition, accurate diagnosis, and evidence-based management are essential to prevent morbidity and mortality. This course provides healthcare professionals with an in-depth understanding of Leishmaniasis, including epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical features, diagnostic methods, pharmacologic treatments, and supportive care.
