What you'll learn

Upon completion of this course, the healthcare professional will be able to:

1. Identify the clinical features, genetic basis, and pathophysiology of Prader-Willi Syndrome.

2. Apply appropriate diagnostic criteria and laboratory/genetic testing to confirm PWS and differentiate it from other syndromic obesity and developmental disorders.

3. Implement evidence-based pharmacologic, nutritional, and supportive interventions to optimize growth, development, and quality of life.

Course overview

Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a rare genetic disorder caused by the absence of expression of paternally inherited genes on chromosome 15q11-q13. Characterized by hypotonia, hyperphagia, developmental delays, endocrine abnormalities, and behavioral challenges, PWS is a complex, lifelong condition. Early recognition, diagnosis, and multidisciplinary management are essential to prevent complications such as obesity, diabetes, and respiratory issues. This course provides healthcare professionals with a detailed review of PWS, including clinical features, diagnostic testing, pharmacologic and supportive management, patient education, and long term outcomes.
