Course overview

This course discusses the different types of human trafficking, the risk factors that are commonly associated, a thorough description of trafficker profiles, and how to identify a victim of human trafficking in a healthcare setting. This course also reviews the essential steps to take after identification of victims, as far as referral options and resources for reporting, Mandated Reporter obligations, as well as the short and long-term health impact that human trafficking can have on survivors. It will also describe the importance of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) and mental health follow-up care for survivors. This course satisfies the specific nursing continuing education requirements for Texas (per Texas Occupations Code, Sections 116 and 301, of 2019 and 1999, respectfully).
