Course overview

This course provides Florida fire-based EMS personnel with role-defined, clinically relevant education on sexual assault, including drug-facilitated and alcohol-facilitated sexual assault (DFSA/AFSA). Instruction emphasizes recognition of indicators, trauma-informed communication, patient-centered safety, consent and confidentiality, ethical response, objective documentation, and referral to SANE/SAFE and victim advocacy services. Content is aligned with Florida statutes, DOJ 2024 guidance, EMS scope-of-practice standards, and applicable federal privacy requirements, including HIPAA. The course does not train EMS personnel to investigate sexual assault and does not expand reporting obligations beyond Florida law.
