Course overview
EMTs are subject to misdiagnosis, inappropriate treatment, and sometimes fatal patient outcomes due to inadequate assessment of endocrine emergencies. Many diabetic emergencies present with subtle or atypical symptoms that can be easily misinterpreted, particularly in elderly patients, children, and those with concurrent medical conditions. This interactive online course will teach you how to recognize the clinical signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, and other endocrine emergencies in real-world field presentations. Additionally, you will learn proper glucometer use and troubleshooting techniques, appropriate BLS interventions including oral glucose administration, and when to activate ALS backup. You will also learn scene safety considerations for managing combative or confused patients and effective documentation strategies for endocrine emergency calls.
