Course overview
People with serious mental illness (SMI) often go in and out of hospitals because the mental health system does not always coordinate care well. This course teaches about Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), a model developed in the 1960s and 70s during a time when people with SMI were being released from hospitals. Many of them were not prepared to live on their own. ACT was created to help with this problem and has been proven to work. It helps people stay out of the hospital, keep housing, feel better, and live better lives. In some places, ACT is also called PACT.
