Emergency responders encounter approximately 17,000 new spinal cord injuries annually in the United States, with these life-altering injuries potentially causing permanent paralysis, loss of sensation, and chronic pain. Proper assessment of mechanism of injury and implementation of appropriate spinal immobilization techniques can prevent secondary injury and reduce long-term complications. This interactive online course will teach you how to identify the anatomy and physiology of spinal structures, assess various types of spinal cord injuries, and determine appropriate patient management strategies.
