Course overview

This continuing education course is designed for pharmacy technicians and focuses on current trends in diabetes medications and technology within the technician scope of practice. Participants will gain an overview of newly approved diabetes therapies and their general place in therapy, as well as emerging tools such as continuous glucose monitors, closed-loop insulin systems, smart insulin pens, and once-weekly insulin products. The course also examines affordability and access barriers affecting populations at highest risk for diabetes complications. Emphasis is placed on technician-appropriate responsibilities, including supporting medication access, processing prior authorizations, navigating formularies, assisting with patient assistance programs, and reinforcing pharmacist-directed education to support safe and efficient pharmacy operations.
