Course overview
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. Often, healthcare professionals assess for suicide risk, but frequently, there is no follow-up or treatment instituted in someone who may be at risk. This independent study described depression and other psychiatric disorders, their influence in suicidal behavior, factors that require special intervention, major questions to ask a potentially suicidal individual, details the steps to ensure the patients safety, and concludes with steps that should be addressed with the family and friends in the case of a completed suicide.
