Course overview
Magnesium deficiency (hypomagnesemia) is a frequently underdiagnosed electrolyte disorder that plays a critical role in neuromuscular, cardiovascular, and metabolic function. Magnesium is essential for enzymatic reactions, neuromuscular conduction, cardiac rhythm stability, and calcium and potassium homeostasis. Deficiency may result from inadequate intake, gastrointestinal losses, renal wasting, or medication effects and is commonly associated with chronic illness and hospitalization. This course provides healthcare professionals with a comprehensive review of magnesium deficiency, including pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic laboratory values, pharmacologic and nutritional management, and patient safety considerations.
