Course overview

In this Practical, we'll go through an evidence-based approach to developing a tailored management plan for people with patellofemoral pain. Exercise will be a core component of management for most people with patellofemoral pain, targeting hip, knee, posterior chain and/or trunk strength as guided by your assessment. Functional exercises, such as single leg squat, can be used to improve neuromuscular control during the functional movements that the patient needs to do for their sport or activity. Adjunct treatments such as foot orthoses, patellar taping and manual therapy will also be covered, as they can be used to improve pain and range of motion. We'll also look at education, which is a key component of treatment, to ensure that the patient understands what patellofemoral pain is, what the prognosis is, how different treatments can help their pain, and how to manage their load while remaining active.
