Course overview

Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA) in healthcare undermines patient trust, increases costs, and threatens the integrity of Medicare and Medicaid programs. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Home Health Aides (HHAs) play a vital role in protecting patients, employers, and federal healthcare resources through ethical practice, accurate documentation, and timely reporting of concerns. This course provides CNAs and HHAs with a comprehensive understanding of fraud, waste, and abuse as defined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Learners will explore real-world examples relevant to long-term care, home health, and community-based settings; understand the legal and ethical implications of FWA; and learn their responsibilities in prevention, detection, and reporting. Emphasis is placed on practical application, professional accountability, and non-retaliation protections for good-faith reporting. This course is designed to meet annual in-service and compliance training requirements and supports a culture of integrity, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
