Course overview
This course discusses physical therapy care for the patient with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Topics include the differences between acquired and traumatic brain injuries, the mechanisms and types of TBI, select primary impairments, secondary impairments, and secondary injuries, terminology related to classification of injury severity, standardized tools for defining injury severity, measuring disability, cognitive function, patient perception, and predicting outcomes after TBI, assessment of concussion and guidelines for return to activity, and therapy interventions based on care setting and severity of injury following TBI.
