Human Trafficking Awareness and Identification for 988 Call Line Workers

Course overview

This interactive course is intended to equip 988 call line professionals with the tools and skills needed to identify and respond to victims of trafficking. Attendees will examine case studies, participate in interactive polls and hear from subject matter experts. The course will help attendees recognize signs of trafficking, understand dynamics of exploitative relationships, build empathy with individuals who may be experiencing a trafficking situation, and identify available resources to support people who have been trafficked. After completing this course, participants will be able to: 1. Define the crime of human trafficking and identify the elements of this definition. 2. Explain the dynamics of exploitation and how trafficking occurs within relationships. 3. Review a potential case of human trafficking and differentiate cases of exploitation and abuse versus human trafficking. 4. Describe how to utilize trauma-informed language when speaking with a caller with potential experience of being trafficked. 5. Identify local and state resources to enhance their response to human trafficking.
