Ethical codes identify the spiritual dimension as a necessary component of competent mental health care; however, evidence suggests that many psychologists, licensed mental health professionals, and ministry leaders lack comprehensive training in the value of addressing spirituality and faith in the therapy process. This workshop will examine recent research on client preferences and mental health professionals' perspectives on the role of religion and spirituality in mental health care, and the foundational importance of incorporating this area into a holistic therapeutic approach. Some practical examples for building spirituality and faith within the context of working with a willing Christian client will be explored, along with some biblical and historical church principles and practices.
