This CEU addresses the common issue of non-adherence to prescribed home exercise programs through the lens of behavior analysis. Taught by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Doctor of Physical Therapy, this session discusses common barriers to an individual's ability to complete HEPs from a behavior change perspective and strategies to increase the likelihood of completion. Research has shown that there is an up to 70% non-adherence rate on home exercise program completion. Research has also suggested that physical therapists would benefit from a multidisciplinary approach to improve adherence and patient outcomes. A problem in the educational system of physical therapists is that they are not taught how to implement the appropriate systems to create true, long-term behavior change in the clients they work with in the clinic. This course aims to give a basic education on behavioral science to increase the size of a physical therapist's toolbox with regards to plan of care development, subjective interviewing skills, reinforcing value recognition, and behavior momentum.
