The 30-hour Mental Health Physical Therapist Certification is designed for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants (PT/PTA) seeking advanced training in psychologically-informed care within physical therapy practice. This comprehensive program equips participants with the knowledge and clinical skills to recognize, screen for, and address common mental health conditions -- such as depression, anxiety, trauma-related distress, and stress -- that directly influence pain, function, engagement, and rehabilitation outcomes. Participants will gain a clear understanding of biopsychosocial and psychologically-informed models of care, with emphasis on the dynamic interaction between mental and physical health and the role of interdisciplinary collaboration. Core takeaways include practical, evidence-based strategies for delivering trauma-informed, relational, and empathic care; applying cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and somatic interventions within the physical therapy setting; and integrating feasible psychosocial interventions into routine clinical practice. Upon completion, PTs and PTAs will be prepared to implement mentally informed, patient-centered care approaches that enhance clinical outcomes, improve adherence, and expand their professional competence while remaining within scope of practice.
