Course overview

This continuing education course provides Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics with advanced knowledge in dive medicine and clinical hyperbaric medicine. Topics include diving physics, physiology under pressure, decompression theory, decompression sickness, barotrauma, patient assessment of diving-related injuries, recompression therapy concepts, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, tissue oxygen monitoring, and hyperbaric chamber operations. Emphasis is placed on recognition of pressure-related illnesses, risk assessment, patient stabilization, oxygen administration, and coordination with medical direction and hyperbaric treatment facilities. Participants will apply principles within the EMS scope of practice to support safe management, transport, and referral of patients exposed to hyperbaric environments.
