Course overview

Course Description: This course provides a comprehensive overview of sexual violence prevention using a public health framework. Drawing from the CDCs Sexual Violence Prevention Resource for Action, participants will review risk and protective factors across the socioecological model, examine primary prevention strategies, and explore policy, systems, and environmental approaches designed to reduce sexual violence. The course emphasizes health equity, cross-sector collaboration, trauma-informed principles, and measurable outcomes to promote safe and respectful communities. This course is appropriate for intermediate and advanced-level practitioners who wish to learn more about preventing sexual violence. It is also a good resource for licensed therapists who need domestic violence continuing education for license renewal. Authors: Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Institute of Health Learning Objectives: This course will provide a professional with detailed information about preventing sexual violence. Specifically, the practitioner will: Identify at least three risk and protective factors associated with sexual violence across the socioecological model. Differentiate primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention strategies in sexual violence prevention. Describe evidence-based community, policy, and systems-level strategies that reduce sexual violence risk. Citation: Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Institute of Health. (2025).
