Infection Control and Barrier Precautions

Course overview

This course provides healthcare professionals with essential knowledge and skills to prevent and control the spread of infections in healthcare and community settings. Students will learn the principles of infection control, including how infections spread, proper hand hygiene, and the use of standard and transmission-based precautions. The course emphasizes the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, gowns, masks, and eye protection to protect both patients and healthcare workers. Students will also learn proper cleaning, disinfection, and waste disposal techniques to maintain a safe and sanitary environment. Special attention is given to preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), protecting vulnerable populations, and following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
