Course overview
Peer support specialists (PSS) and other professionals with lived experience play an important role in health and human services. They use their own recovery stories to inspire hope, show healthy coping skills, and encourage people to stay engaged in care. This course will explore the roles, values, and core competencies that help healthcare providers distinguish peer support specialists from clinical staff. Supervising these workers can be different from supervising clinical staff because their personal recovery experiences are central to their work. This course will explore supervision strategies for peer support specialists. It will also cover the unique challenges and key considerations involved in supervising peers and other lived-experience professionals.
