Eyes and Endocrine: Recognizing Ocular and Hormonal Disease in Rabbits

Course overview

Rabbits often present with ocular disease, and many cases are missed or mismanaged without a structured diagnostic approach. This session covers practical recognition and treatment of common eye conditions, including glaucoma, dacryocystitis, infectious blepharitis, with a note on managing syphilis when procaine penicillin G is hard to obtain, conjunctival overgrowth, cataracts, corneal ulcers (superficial, deep, and indolent), lipid keratopathy, and intraocular neoplasia. The session will also include a brief overview of the most relevant endocrine conditions seen in practice, primarily adrenal disease and insulinoma, with a focus on clinical presentation and what can realistically be worked up in a general practice setting.
