Course overview

This course provides an overview of the causes and treatment of common pigment disorders encountered in aesthetic and dermatologic practice. Participants will review the biology of skin pigmentation, including the role of melanocytes and the protective function of melanin against ultraviolet radiation. The session examines common pigment conditions such as melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, freckles, and solar lentigines, along with contributing factors including hormonal influences and skin type. Evidence-based treatment approaches will be discussed, including topical therapies, chemical peels, and combination treatment strategies. Attendees will also review commonly used pigment-modifying ingredients and important safety considerations.
