Course overview
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a major surgical intervention for end-stage osteoarthritis with over one million procedures performed worldwide every year. Prehabilitation is a proactive structured programme designed to improve a patient's physical and psychological capacity before surgery. It is emerging as a critical component of patient preparation. This course examines the evidence-based rationale for prehabilitation programmes explores essential outcome measures and prognostic indicators and analyses how surgical and anaesthetic approaches influence rehabilitation outcomes. Participants will also learn the key post-operative exercises and mobility techniques that patients should be familiarised with before surgery. Participants will gain practical knowledge to optimise patient preparation establish realistic expectations and design effective rehabilitation protocols that enhance post-operative recovery and functional outcomes.
