Development of Postural Control in the Infant

Course overview

The development of postural control in the infant is the foundational building block for participation across the life span. How does the infant develop trunk/postural control in the horizontal and vertical positions and on the sagittal, frontal and transverse planes? This session will look at how the infant develops trunk and postural control, uses trunk control functionally in all 3 planes of movement, and how the sensory systems impact postural control. After analysis of movement the clinician will be guided in implementation of intervention techniques that impact the infants use of dynamic control during functional tasks, e.g. transitional movements, play, feeding, and communication. Information will be provided via lecture and phot/video of intervention strategies.
