Course overview
This wound care focused course will provide information to attendees to improve their evaluation and treatment of wounds in the setting of lymphedema management. This course includes a brief review of anatomy and physiology of the skin, phases of wound healing, and recognition of different types of common lower extremity wound etiologies. In addition, attendees will learn basic wound assessment, dressing categories and appropriate dressing selection, as well as proper skin and wound care management specific to venous leg ulcers in the presence of phlebolymphedema. Included is an overview of comprehensive lymphedema care including the use of an advanced pneumatic compression device for ongoing long term home management for decreased risk of recurrence of ulcers.
